Overview[]

There are six different Rarities or "colors" of Borgs:

  • Normal
  • Alternate
  • Clear/crystal
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Black/shadow

Normal Borgs are the most common, followed by alternate borgs, then clear, then silver, then gold, then black. The color of a borg can be determined by looking next to their name in the box. If their name has no cube next to it, the borg is normal. The other colors have specific cubes associated with them:

  • Alternate: Yellow, red, and green cube
  • Clear: Blue cube
  • Silver: Silver cube
  • Gold: Gold cube
  • Black: Black cube

For the purposes of determining how much HP and ammo a borg has, its color effectively changes its level:

  • Normal and alternate Borgs have no change.
  • Clear Borgs have two levels less than normal.
  • Silver Borgs have four levels more than normal.
  • Gold Borgs have six levels more than normal.
  • Black Borgs have two levels more than normal.

Rare-colored Borgs, i.e. Borgs of any color other than normal, only appear under certain circumstances:

  • The Borg cannot be present at the beginning of a battle.
  • The Borg cannot be controlled by a commander.
    • There are a few exceptions to this rule. If a commander appears in the middle of a battle, like Sho in "Retake Serenity Street," their first borg can be rare-colored. Also, Orochi can control rare-colored borgs in "The Decisive Battle: Defeat the Cosmic Dragon" at Sky Fortress.

If you encounter a rare-colored borg in a battle, there is a chance that you will get a crystal for it. As with normal borgs, you must collect all the crystals for a rare-colored borg to obtain the borg. For example, if you want an alternate borg that requires two crystals, you must collect an alternate A crystal and an alternate B crystal.

Rare Borg Chances[]

Every Borg that spawns in a battle has a 1/256 chance to be Rare. When a rare is chosen to spawn, it generates another number from 1 to 16. Below is a table showing the different chances of the Borg becoming different rarities:

  • Clear = 8/16
  • Silver = 5/16
  • Gold = 2/16
  • Black = 1/16

Combining these ratios with the 1/256 chance for a rare Borg to spawn in the first place, the effective Rarities are:

  • Clear = 1/512
  • Silver = 1/819.2
  • Gold = 1/2048
  • Black = 1/4096

If the 1/256 roll fails to roll a Rare, then it has a 1/4 chance to become an Alternative Borg instead.

NOTES:

-Playthrough #1 cannot bear any Rarity, as they are impossible to encounter

-Apart from Playthrough #1, the play number has no bearing on Rare drop rates. You are as likely to find a Black Borg on Play #2 as you are on Play #8.

GET System[]

The GET system is what the game uses to determine when unlocking Borgs and their Data Crystal pieces, both Rare and Normal.

GET Counter[]

Internally, the game uses a GET counter which increases with every Borg you defeat. Once the GET counter reaches equal to or above a Borg’s GET Value, the Borg, or a random Data Crystal variant, is unlocked. The amount the GET counter increases is randomly generated from 1 to 16. If a Borg has a normal GET Value of 16, then when defeating the Borg, there is a 1/16 chance to unlock it after defeating it in battle.

However, the GET Counter remains at the value it had chosen. If you fight a Borg that has a GET Value of 16, and the game internally rolls a 15, then next time you fight that exact same Clear Borg, you have a guaranteed 100% chance of obtaining it due to the GET Counter increasing by a minimum of 1 after fighting that specific Borg.

If you lose or quit a battle, then your GET Counter will revert to what it was before the battle began.

GET Values[]

Every Borg has a GET Value, differentiating between each Borg.

For example, Death Borg Beta has a GET Value of 800. Every time you defeat it, the GET Counter increases between 1 and 16. With optimal RNG, you could defeat the Borg 50 times to unlock it, or at the worst RNG, 800 times. Therefore, every naturally-encountered Borg has a guaranteed chance to unlock if you defeat it enough times with the exception of Galactic Emperor.

With Rare Borgs, the GET Value is different between each Rarity.

Panther Robot Has these GET Values:

  • Normal = 16
  • Alternative = 24
  • Gold = 10
  • Silver = 4
  • Clear = 2
  • Black = 8

There is a 1/16 chance of unlocking this Borg in its Normal Rarity, and a 7/8 (14/16) chance of unlocking their Clear variant after fighting them. The Black Rarity has a 1/2 (8/16) chance. However, if you do not unlock them from your first encounter, the chances of unlocking increase.

Each Rarity of the Borg works on a separate counter. If you fight a Gold Normal Ninja, the GET Counter for the Gold variant will increase, not for its normal variant.

Data Crystal Rarity[]

When the GET Value is fulfilled for a Borg that uses Data Crystals to unlock, you unlock a random Data Crystal piece. The Data Crystal letter is determined by RNG depending on how many pieces there are (For Borgs with 2 Data Crystals, it’s a 50/50 chance for either an A or B piece)

However, Borgs with 3 or 5 Data Crystals have a larger chance to drop their Type A part than others. This is due to the game rolling an RNG value between 1 and 16. A Borg with 2 Data Crystals would simply assign half the value points to Type A and other half to Type B, therefore a 50/50 chance. However, neither 3 nor 5 are divisible by 16, so the extra slot is assigned to Data A (E.g: if the RNG value was to 15, the 3 Data Crystals would fit 33% each, but due to the extra 16th RNG value, the slot is defaulted to Data A)

Trivia[]

  • The chances of a Black-Rarity Borg spawning has the same chances of a shiny Pokémon appearing in modern Pokémon games.
  • It is widely believed that Playthrough number has a bearing on Rare Borg drop rates. However, this bias may have been formed by those continuing to play the game for hours, reaching the higher playthroughs and with more encounters of Borgs there is statistically more of a chance to run into a Rare Borg
  • If an enemy Borg self-destructs or is defeated by a teammate, you will not have a chance at unlocking that Borg. They must be defeated by your Borg.
  • Clear Borgs generally have a low GET Value, and therefore are the easiest to unlock when encountering them in battle
  • When RNG calls for a number between 1 and 16, it’s actually between 0 and 15 in-game due to computing values always beginning at 0.
  • Every single Borg in the game has a GET Counter, including the Galactic Emperor which is usually unobtainable due to their GET Value being set to -1. However, by modifying the values so that the Galactic Emperor uses a normal GET Value, it is possible to unlock them after defeating it in battle. The Galactic Emperor uses a 5 Data Crystal set.
  • The in-game “Rarity” ranking from E to S is simply cosmetic and has no bearing on drop rates
  • In every Subsequent Play #, every Borg gains 1 level. At Play #8, all Borgs are level 8. Therefore, grinding for Rare Borgs is easiest on Play #2.
  • The Borg with the highest GET value is an Alternative Death Borg Omega III at a value of 1440. However, this Borg does not have Rare Borg colors in-game and is therefore inaccessible
